| | I have lost two friends in the last 12 days. This is dedicated to them, Prichard Pollett and Hiroki Ainai.
Carmina CI
I have rallied through the many countries and challenged many seas To be here, O my brother, at these sad obsequies, and present you with this last guerdi'on of death, to say, though in vain, these few words to your mute ash, as Fortuna has taken your living flesh from me alas, my own brother, so cruelly burned from the earth. So now, dearest brother, dearest ash, take these offerings from my eyes, which by the custom of our forefathers have been handed down -- take, these sorrowful tributes -- these wet sacrifices; take them, take them ash, my brother, wet these many tears, and then, I say to the sky as my own soul: Comrade. Hail. And Farewell.

I think it's obscene to put a copyright on the translation of a funerary poem, and even worse to advertise such an insult the internet. You know who you are. Your latin must be sh!t or non exThe Death of a Violinististant. For eveyone else, please consider this (CC) Non Commercial, Attribution, Share Alike by Benjamin George Griffin (2011) (c.f. Death of a Violinist - http://bengriffin.me/ ... http://bengriffin.me/2011/10/08/the-death-of-a-violinist/) id est (i.e.) please share and sharealike for all non-commercial purposes, I ask only that you reference me as the translator.
Much thanks to this translation (http://www.vroma.org/~hwalker/VRomaCatullus/101.html) by Mr. H. Walker, who did a capable job of rendering the grandeur and passion of the original Latin (which is stull far and away the best way of reading this glorious piece of latin literature) | | | Yours,
